Frequently Asked Questions

1.       What is the cost of care?

Ashley Gardens rates are based on individual resident level of care requirements. Each prospective resident is assessed prior to admission in order to determine their appropriate level of care. The number of assessment points determines which of the six levels of care will be required. Each of the six levels of care has a different daily rate associated with it. The current approximate average monthly rate for residents is $3,500.00.  A deposit reserves the room of your choice and assures you that your loved one with dementia will have a comfortable homelike residence in which to live and be cared for.

2.       Is Ashley Gardens a secure residence?

Yes. There is 24-hour supervision by Resident Caregivers who are specially trained to provide quality dementia care for our residents. Each Resident Caregiver is trained and certified in first aid, CPR, Fundamentals of Caregiving, dementia care and mental health.  All doors and windows are alarmed and the windows have special limiting locks. Outside patio and garden areas are enclosed by a high fence.

3.       What is the staffing ratio?

Ashley Gardens is proud of the lowest resident to staff ratio in the state of Washington. From 7:00 AM until 11:00 PM, each of our Resident Caregivers has responsibility for only 4 residents; a 4:1 ratio. On occasion, the ratio may rise to 5:1 during census fluctuations, however, the target goal will always remain 4:1.  From 11:00 PM, when most residents are in their bedrooms asleep, the ratio is no higher the 9:1.  During the day, there are also other members of the staff not specifically assigned to care giving who are also available to assist with activities, meals and individual resident needs.

4.       What if my loved one requires additional nursing or therapy?

Additional services are available through a variety of vendors if ordered by the resident’s physician. Wound care specialists, physical therapists, podiatrists as well as others are available to the residents at Ashley Gardens.

5.       How does Ashley Gardens hand end of life issues?

Ashley Gardens works closely with families to assure them that no resident will have to move to another facility as their life comes to an end. Members of the local Hospice team and Ashley Gardens staff provide an unprecedented level of hospice care for residents and their families. The dignity and respect shown residents while they are active members of our community does not end with their need for hospice care. Each resident and family is afforded the continued care, support, respect and dignity when they require hospice care.

6.       Are there physicians available to see residents?

There are several physicians who continue to make “house calls” for Ashley Garden’s residents. It is not always necessary to schedule an outside appointment for the physician to see a resident.  This ability to see the resident in the their normal environment is also of diagnostic assistance to the physician and is less unsettling for the resident.

7.       What if a resident needs more medical attention than can be provided at Ashley Gardens?

If residents require surgery or daily medical treatment unavailable in their residence at Ashley Gardens, arrangements are made for transfer to a nearby medical center to accommodate their needs.  Post-operatively or post hospitalization, the resident is taken back into their residence at Ashley Gardens when they are capable of resuming their normal activities.

8.       Are their nurses on staff?

Yes. A nurse is scheduled during the day, seven days a week. In those hours during which a nurse is not on the premises, a nurse is on-call for consultation or if necessary to return to the facility to administer the needed care or medication.

9.       If I think of more questions, how do I get answers?

Please call Mount Vernon at (360) 419-9422 and ask to speak with Helen or Shelley or call Bremerton at (360) 478-7277 and ask to speak with Linda. If none of them are available, the Resident Caregiver staff members are prepared to respond to most questions about the care and services we provide at Ashley Gardens.
