Re: Letter from Robert Sidbury, MD
March 2, 2003 RE: James B. Sidbury, Jr. Duane Riedesel 3807 E. College Way Mt. Vernon, WA 98273 Dear Duane: Two weeks have passed since my father died and I often think of you and your staff in my near constant reflections. My dad lived a wonderful life and left us all with many fond memories. His last years were difficult due to illness that he could not control; this forced dependence on a very independent man. The incredible efforts of your staff played a large role in making his adjustment as smooth as it could have been. He was treated with dignity, empathy, support, and genuine love. With every visit I marveled at the relationship he developed with every one of your staff, and they with him. I am biased of course and think he was a very lovable guy, but I don't for a moment forget that the work you all do is hard and relentless. The best of intentions and spirits can be tried in such a demanding environment, but I never once saw it get the best of anyone there. I have commented before about the extraordinary efforts by your staff when he was in the hospital; I was only more moved by the care shown him, and all of us, during his last days. By allowing us to stay in the room next door, and never once making us feel unwelcome or impertinent with our request and needs, and mostly with the tender care you showed him, you have left an indelible impression on our hearts. If there is anything that I can do for Ashley Gardens in the future please do not hesitate to ask. I believe that it goes without saying that I would recommend Ashley Gardens without reservation to anyone in need of your level of care. Sincerely, Robert Sidbury, M.D.
